Juried Art Show
JURIED SHOW DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2008

At the heart of the Black Swamp Arts Festival, running the length of Downtown Main Street, are over 100 juried fine art displays from artists across the country. Over 60,000 people attend to enjoy the art, music, and atmosphere. Read over the Juried Artist Prospectus then download an application.

Although this is a three-day festival, the art exhibits are only open on Saturday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Only the Main Stage and the food court are open on Friday, the first day of the Festival.

Meet the 2007 Jurors

Three art professionals who are not affiliated with the Black Swamp Arts Festival are selected each year to jury in artists and select prize winners on the Saturday of the Festival.

Julie Schnell-Madden
Currently Head of Ceramics Department at Owens College, Julie has a BFA from Ohio University and an MA and MFA from BGSU. She has exhibited her work in numerous national exhibitions, and festivals. “Creativity allows you to make mistakes. Art is knowing which things to keep.”

Thomas S. Madden
Raised in Wichita, Kansas, Thomas S. Madden earned his B.F.A. in Metalsmithing and Jewelry Design from Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kansas in 1981. Mr. Madden completed his M.F.A. in Metalsmithing and Jewelry Design at Bowling Green State University, 1988. He remained with Bowling Green State University in a teaching capacity until 1991. In that year, Mr. Madden joined the faculty at the College for Creative Studies, Detroit, MI. where he is Associate Professor, Crafts Department Chairman, Section Chair for Metalsmithing and Jewelry Design, and Crafts Department Chairman.

Maritza Mosquera
Born in Quito, Ecuador, Maritza earned her Bachelors of Fine Arts at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, Maryland, continued her work in printmaking at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, and earned a Masters of Fine Arts degree from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. She received a scholarship to Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture where she studied with Agnes Martin and Joseph Campbell. In 1993, she began developing community collaborations and performances in her living-work space, The Etna Springs Art Studios (The Rink), a 100 year old roller skating rink in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania. She is now working as and independent artist and community projects consultant through out the region, nationally and internationally
.


Wood County Invitational Art Exhibit
INVITATIONAL SHOW APPLICATION PROCESS BEGINS: JUNE 1, 2008

The Festival recognizes that it is essential to provide both an independently juried art show and a separate, distinctly located, venue that encourages and supports our quality area artists and art groups. Read over the Invitational Criteria  then download an application.

The Wood County Invitational Art Show runs Saturday (10 am - 7 pm) and Sunday (11 am - 5 PM) in the Huntington Bank parking lot at the corner of South Main and Clough Streets. All artists living within a 30-mile radius of Bowling Green are invited to submit an application for the Wood County Invitational.

Artists at Work
A hands-on community art project for our adult visitors

Let the art bug bite you! Try your hand at the community art project at the 2008 ARTISTS AT WORK area of the Black Swamp Arts Festival. Paint a small square of the community mural using your own creativity. All pieces will be re-assembled to form one artistic masterpiece.
