The Board of Directors of the Black Swamp Arts Festival expresses its sorrow over the death of Judy Cernkovich on March 11, 2007.

Judy was a longtime friend of the Festival, and her indelible spirit and hospitality were evident in all that she did. Together with her good friend Sandy Wicks, Judy was the force behind the Festival’s Information Booth on Main Street, extending a warm and caring hand to long-time patrons and first-time visitor alike.

Judy was the recipient of the Festival’s Dan Baglione Service Award in 2005, which is given annually to an outstanding volunteer, supporter, or advocate in recognition of their service to the Black Swamp Arts Festival.

In Judy’s memory, the Festival shall award its 2007 Community Art Award to the Wood County Educational Service Center. Representatives from the Center will be asked to select a work of art to be publicly displayed at the Center. The work of art shall bear a plaque honoring Judy and her service to the Festival.

On behalf of the Festival, the Board of Directors expresses its deepest sympathy to Judy’s husband Stephen, her daughters, Erin and Abby, and the entire Cernkovich Family. It was directed that this resolution be inscribed upon the minutes of Festival’s Board and that a copy be tendered to the family as an expression of the Board's heartfelt sympathy.
