'RHYTHM'
RINGS THROUGH THE SWAMP
Black Swamp Arts Festival Awarded Grant for Youth Art
Area
'RHYTHM' is the theme of
the 2007 Youth Art Area at the 15th annual Black Swamp Arts Festival
in September. Youth Arts has long engaged several thousands of children
and their families through hands-on art activities and stage performances,
but this year will add two new activities thanks to a grant from the
Bowling Green Community Foundation.
The DRUM CIRCLE activity allows
children to decorate their own drums, then return to participate in
a drum circle and dance line performance at selected times.
The MASK MAKING activity allows children to make masks, which can
be worn as part of a storytelling performance. These activities are
designed to link together the visual and performing arts for children.
The grant was presented to the
Festival at a spring ceremony
at Stone Ridge Country Club, and was accepted by Lloyd Triggs, Chair
of Youth Arts. Triggs, an art teacher at Anthony Wayne High School,
has been a volunteer for the Festival since 2003.
From its inception, the Black
Swamp Arts Festival has promoted the arts in Bowling Green to audiences
of all ages. Now in its 15th year, the Festival continues to present
quality visual and performing arts, as well as enjoyable family experiences
that are free to the public. The Festival's Youth Art Committee, with
guidance from local art and music teachers Rob and Lisa Morgan, will
develop these activities for the Saturday and Sunday portions of the
Festival.
15th Annual Festival runs September
7, 8, and 9, 2007
Youth Arts will be operational on Saturday, September 8 and Sunday,
September 9.
